There is a bluegrass jam and concert on the First Saturday every month in Pearl Texas. Pearl is West of Waco and the jam is located in an old schoolhouse. The auditorium holds the main concert, and the classrooms have either a place to dine or multiple jams. The jams start at Noon (food on site). I understand it is pretty good for hungry pickers, spouses, and little pickens..... The stage show starts at 12:30 where selected bands play for up to 45 minutes each. There are practice sessions and jams in the other classrooms and it is easy to find an opportunity to jam with them. Pearl is NOT on old maps so when you pass Gatesville on US 84 go about 12 miles and find State Hwy 183, go South about 8 miles and look for a schoolyard with a bunch of cars. It is well worth the search and a lot of fun to camp on site and enjoy the crowd. http://www.pearlbluegrass.com/
Well folks, I went there last Saturday and wish to report that everything is much better than I reported. They started the show around 12:30 and each band had 45 minutes to present their selection of bluegrass.
While they were playing different groups were practicing or ad-hoc groups were jamming in other rooms and on the grounds.
Better location information. The nearest city is Gatesville TX on US Hwy 84. Go West from Gatesville for about 12 miles and turn South on State Hwy 183 for about 8 miles. THe schoolhouse has become a community center where the Pearl Jam is.
It is, here is the link. It's remarkable that it is so well attended every month in spite of the small population of the village and it's remote location. But it is certainly popular in Central Texas. http://www.pearlbluegrass.com/
