I am curious what is in your cd player when you are not listening to wwb. This gives everyone the chance to maybe discover some new music. One of the great things about wwb is the wide range of music that is played on wwb.....
"The Journey" Mountain Heart
This is a great gospel bluegrass album by Mountain Heart. "The Journey" is the second album that was released by the group and it is excellent in song selection as well as great vocal harmonies. The album is not available as the record company went out of business but I was lucky enough to get a copy from a friend that I met on wwb during the Jim VanCleve interview hosted by Gracie Muldoon...
Good topic don't know about new music but i know theres an awfull lot of old music out there that you don't hear because it's non digital and on vinyl, i've got hundreds of great old albums, what about the
The Pine River Valley Boys Paul kirchner on Banjo Don Loomis on mando
Kentucky Colonels with Roland and Clarence White
Haylo Brown and the Lonesome Pine Fiddlers
Vassar Clements Bluegrass sessions
Messa Grass
The Watson Family
Bill Clifton
The Stonemans
and one of the first albums i ever got Bluegrass Banjo's on Fire by Homer and the Barnstormers
the long standing question never answered "Who was Homer"????
But salvation is now at hand here's the latest technology All you DJ's note this may be of use to you
I don't do my CD player much anymore but I do have a difficult time picking within my 7500 songs in my computer. Been listening a lot lately to David Peterson and Hit & Run Band and also No Speed Limit as well.

well, i am glad you asked that. because layla just tried to eat my "little birdie" cd (jim and jennie and the pinetops)
i was putting cds away and that one fell on the floor, i was on the phone and didn't notice. how ironic because not only do i love that cd, but it's the one she's howling to on myspace pics..i was all bummed until i realized she only chewed a quarter of it and they must burn from the center (duh?) so it still played!! HAHAHA LAYLA!!
i like bluegrass best of all music, no question, but i don't have all that much the wwb doesn't play. frankly, i have a lot more to learn about it. i like red molly, and a few of the other artists i have met on myspace that you don't already play. just don't have their cd's
i admit sometimes, i still play the moody blues or joni or something from my past. i liked learning about the land where the blues began cd too. but mostly i want to learn more about bluegrass and mountain music. there is just something about good bluegrass music and the people! old time, new, either.
Currently in my truck's CD player is Earl Scruggg's & Friends "I Saw the Light with Some Help from My Friends". Also in the truck but not in the player are the 5 CD's by Iron Horse. Thier one CD of originals, and the 4 tribute CD's
i am lissin' to Allson Brown in the car right now simple pleasures i belive and i have the homer and the barnstormers 78 and that has got to be Roger Sprungs banjo on the cover i'm bettin' he had something to do with it.............mack

Interesting Mack BUT i'm refering to the LP of circa 1963 called Bluegrass banjo's on fire it was titled in the states as Flaming Banjo's i believe, now the cover does have a Banjo on it however it's an archtop with a hide head also the flange holes are circular which is unusual, many have guesed as to Homers identity i.ve heard e'm all but no one as yet produced any evidence of who he was what evidence there is seems to surgest he was a session musician, but what was his real name???? that's the burning question!!!!!

Yikes Les that's a new one and i've heard e'm all from Curtis Mcpeak to Charles (Buck) Trent, now i know Pete Stanley he's a Brit who lives in London and still plays, at that time 1960's Pete was playing with one Bian Golbey who's also still on the scean around here, but least this one i can truly prove or disprove i have contact with Pete so i'll ask him, i'll let you know, by the Way sorry i appear to have high jacked Sky's thread
Saturday 6th Oct 10.03am GMT just spoke with Pete Stanley on the phone Les, definatly and possitvly not him on that album, did'nt think it was i know pete's style quite well and it don't fit the recording

Ray this was my reference, however exploring further, I realize that it was not Pete...but..I will research it further and come up with the answer.
I might even call the folks at Alshire label..they might have the info we seek and reveal the mystery banjo player....one reference suggested Doug Dillard...might be...I know for a fact that Sonny Osborne did some of that work in the 60's as well....If I could hear the record...I may be able to determine the performer by his stylings that would continue on today...I will keep trying as it makes me wonder as well...
Les i'me aware of that article it come from my part of the world North West Blugrass Magazine if you re read it you will see pete Stanley sites this record as a major influence as i do in taking up bluegrass banjo:--
Pete in particular became more Bluegrass-oriented, much influenced by Bill Keith (amongst others) and was a great influence on many British 'folkies' to take up 5-string banjo and an interest in Bluegrass. 16 Tons Of Bluegrass was not their first recording release but a recent BBMA survey showed that it was one of the top two influences on the growth in interest in Bluegrass in the UK. The other one was Homer and The Barnstormers' Bluegrass Banjos on Fire (Who were they?)
he also sites Bill Keith as an influence and if i might digress Bill is doing a workshop for us on the 17th Oct on line in the banjo lounge:---http://banjolounge.ivocalize.net/ cost is $20 and 25 seats is the max it's filling up fast contact Jim Pankey (Lone Moutain Band)
Les Jack Baker swears the banjo player was Curtis Mcpeake i've also got other surgestions that say it was Buck Trent i've e-mailed both of them posing the question the thing is at the end of the day i need evidence opinions count for little, this mystery is the most bluegrass challenging since the "Who was the Flint Hill Flash" mystery, good luck with your digging i'll continue to turn over the stones as i come to them

Gracie, never considered myself sly, but maybe I am....the last couple days I've been listening to the first Mountain Heart cd, "Mountain Heart". Its got some fine singing and picking. The cd was put out on Doobie Shea records and is not in print anymore but one may be able to get a hold of a copy by some means.
My favorite song on the cd is probably "Roses" and "Cold Kentucky Rain" but I like just about all the cuts on the cd. This is definitely a great first album by a great band.
i like my wild hare cd. ive been listenin to old stanley bros. recordings lately too. after listenin to myself for the past 5 or 6 months it is refreshing to hear somebody else.when im havin a bad day i listen to ludacris " get back"
