Hi from Vargön, Sweden

Hi everyone!!!

How nice to see a forum over here! I've thought many times that I should join the chat, but I rarely find it meaningful to try to chat with Americans since I'm in a completely different time zone. But forums are great!!

So, I'm Susi, some may know me from Shepherd Bluegrass Stop, where I've been a member since 2001. I've been more or less active there, especially lately since I have quite much to do.

I discovered bluegrass music back in 1995, when I was looking for traditional country and found a CD with the Cox family. They do some kind of mix between country and bluegrass, but were a door for me to the bluegrass world. From The Cox family, I went to the early works of Alison Krauss, and further to all kinds of bands. I was a poor student and my salvation was the city library's music department!!! They actually did have quite much, or at least a few, bluegrass CDs.
I started to play the guitar, but quite soon switched to the mandolin, in 1996. And I've been struggling alone with that for years, until I met my husband in 2004, and got going quite well. Since we met I've broadened my views a lot and dared to try also other instruments and we have a huge collection of instruments... I try to play the mandolin, guitar, fiddle, bouzouki (flat top), mountain dulcimer (bought it a few days ago, wonderful instrument!!!), concertina, tin whistle......Now, don't think I'm as good as it sounds, I'm a happy amateur on most things.

I play some country, some bluegrass, a lot of oldtime and Irish music, and I just LOVE old murder ballads. I play, since May of this year, in a band, oldtime and Irish music, and my husband and I are also planning to start some kind of band, just the two of us, old traditional country music like Hank Williams stuff, Carter family stuff, and similar.

When I don't keep myself busy with music, I work as a RN, presently in a respiratory unit (since 3 years) but I'm planning to do something else, don't know anything yet. My main interest is cancer care and palliative care so I hope I can do something with that. They are searching for Swedish nurses in Norway, you have all sorts of choices, can choose when to work, and earn lots of money. So I need to start organizing...

Well, that's some about me... See you on board.

Well hello there Susi.  I reckon the best people just migrate around the Web together.  Murder ballads, eh?  Seems there's lots of them in bluegrass. I'll bet your love of them keeps your husband thinking......

I don't know any dead Susi songs, lots of dead Mary and Jenny songs, but there's probably one or two out there somewhere.  (You better hope your husband doesn't write one)

It sure is!!! And soon not even that... but hey, Scotland... it'll be an ocean away anyway... but a small one. You see, my husband and myself are planning a move to Ireland after Christmas, if thing go well. But it depends on the house if we can sell it before that. But at least we've decided to cross the sea for better work opportunities (and better music!!).

What about that oldtime tune? What's the name? Black-eyed Suzie? Maybe she doesn't die. I don't know the words but I know there's only one phrase in it..
